The adage says it truthfully, “If we don’t learn from the past, we are condemned to repeat it”. And that is the greatest tragedy of all when we don’t learn from the mistakes in history.

The Red Poppy traditionally reminds us of sad death and rest in peace. It is often displayed in remembering the fallen in conflict wars. Now once again sadly global society is fighting a different kind of war against Coronavirus.

The Red Poppy is the enduring remembrance of the First World War. It is linked to Armistice Day 11th November. This memory symbol has continued over the years including the Second World War.

The Red Poppy does not glorify war and conflict as some foolish Pacifists think. The Red Poppy is simply a symbol of respect for those who died in war.

The Red Poppy was one of the first to flower in the World War I devastated battlefields of Northern France and Belgium.

Today the Red Poppy is used in remembrance of all those who died and suffered in World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan.

Thousands have died around the globe. And we may not know all their names, but with respect for their friends and family we must not give up in our struggle to reduce the tragic death toll raging around the now pandemic planet. This fight is a different kind of fight, but nevertheless it is a war against the cruelty of evolution’s not very nice character at times.

The White Poppy was used as a symbol of peace in 1926 for those that supported the end of war. Sadly, the ‘Habit of War’ has continued and millions have died as victims of war since that year.

White Poppies are not a protest against remembrance they are a symbol for remembrance of those who died and suffered in war. And they represent a commitment to establishing peace.

The Black Poppy represents all African, Black, West Indian and Pacific Islander heritage Nations who gallantly contributed to war efforts during dangerous times.

Purple Poppies are used to commemorate animals who lost their lives serving their country. Dogs, Horses and Pigeons were often drafted into war service.

Dolphins & Sea Lions were used by U.S. Navy during First & Second Gulf War.
