Wind Turbines instead of Trees.
USA: Landfill Dump in Casper, Wyoming, proves that the World has gone nuts in its obsession with ‘Renewable Energy’, void of common-sense logic.
There is no place or justification for the use of Wind Turbines, in an age when Nuclear Energy is cleaner and safer for environment and the use of CO2 as an energy source can be safely researched and developed further as a better alternative fuel. The Greens are incompetent in their Socialist thinking mentality.
Keith Griffith for Daily Mail and Associated Press posted this headline… “Not so green: Hundreds of non-recyclable fiberglass wind turbine blades are pictured piling up in landfill” Dated 7th May 2020. (i)
“Indestructible wind turbine blades can’t easily be crushed, recycled or repurposed. Instead they are hacked into pieces small enough for a flatbed and hauled to landfills.” (i)
“The municipal landfill in Casper, Wyoming, is the final resting place of at least 870 discarded fiberglass blades that cannot be recycled and are instead heaped up in piles in landfills. (i)
“Other landfill that accept the blades are in Lake Mills, Iowa and Sioux Falls, South Dakota.” (i)
Allan Ivarsson comments… It would be interesting to know where each country is discarding in landfill their old discarded Turbine blades and other parts. We need a landfill map of all the earth being used to bury old blades in the earth. This is not a very smart way to treat our planet. So much for the fading credibility of the mindless ‘Green Movement’.
“Built to withstand hurricane winds, the turbine blades cannot easily be crushed or recycled. About 8,000 of the blades are decommissioned in the U.S. every year.” (i)
A.I. comments… Over a century in USA that is 800,000 blades being buried. If more ‘Wind Farms’ are built that huge number will increase. Destroying land, filling it with blades is irresponsible behaviour. This ‘Renewable Energy’ tactic is hurting our planet, not helping it.
“Once they reach the end of their useful life on electricity-generating wind turbines, the blades have to be hacked up with industrial saws into pieces small enough to fit on a flat-bed trailer and hauled to a landfill that accepts them.” (i)
A.I. comments… I wonder how many workers are hurt by accidents using industrial saws to cut up these fiberglass blades into smaller pieces. Injuries caused by the idea that we can say we are being green. How is filling blade cut parts as landfill, thinking ‘Green’?
Large open spaces are needed for such landfill. As population increases over the next five centuries into more billions of people, where shall the burying of old blades be dumped?
“Once they are in the ground, the blades will remain there essentially forever – they do not degrade or break down over time.” (i)
A.I. comments… Exactly right forever. There are many species of animals that live underground where do they live when sites are filled with fiberglass material? X marks the spot. How will future generations know where it is safe to build on firm land with so many places over the centuries riddled with fiberglass landfill?
Over millions of years the earth forms of hills, mountains and valleys keeps changing for the earth is always moving. Will all that fiberglass be forced upwards into the open again or buried deeper by earth movements? What is the impact on life in centuries to come as the earth changes its face? Earth Corroded by many wrong things we do, demands that we must change our thinking and behaviour and become once more a friend of the earth as were ancient primitive tribes.
Greening of earth is not happening when we use ‘Climate Change Activism’ tactics that lack common-sense logic.
“Texas-based ‘Global Fiberglass Solutions’ claims to be the first U.S. company to develop a method to repurpose discarded turbine blades into useful products.” (i)
“The company uses material from the blades to make fiberglass pellets that can be turned into flooring, parking bollards, warehouse pallets, and other items.” (i)
“We can process 99.9% of a blade and handle about 6,000 to 7,000 blades a year per plant,” CEO Don Lilly told Bloomberg. “When we start to sell to more builders, we can take in a lot more of them. We’re just gearing up.” (i)
A.I. comments… Now we are getting somewhere, finally an alternative solution to the current method of recklessly burying fiberglass in landfill. But then such plants need to be established in every Nation that uses fiberglass turbines. However, despite the potential of this corrective action solution, we still need to return to the original question, “Why are we building ‘Wind Farms’ that are destroying earth’s environment, when other better methods exist?”
“Fossil fuels such as natural gas and coal remain the leading providers of the nation’s electricity, with nuclear power another key contributor, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.” (i)
A.I. comments… Unfortunately, we must still for a time use ‘Fossil Fuels’ for survival reasons, but our future is not in creation of ‘Wind Farms’ & ‘Solar Farms’, our future must be in ‘Nuclear Energy’ which is safe clean energy. There is no justified place for the existence of Wind Turbines. And Solar Panels should only be used on buildings and appropriate locations as a backup strategy to reduce energy costs. There is no place for ‘Solar Farms’ which destroy environment on Land or Sea.
The best way to reduce greenhouse emissions is by use of ‘Nuclear Energy’ and by increasing the work to convert CO2 to a fuel, to eliminate ‘Carbon Monoxide’ and its pollution harmful effects to our environment.
CO2 is not our enemy; it is our friend when allowed to be used wisely. We don’t need to reduce CO2 emissions, we do need to reduce other emissions by better management of gases, than using the idiotic ‘Carbon Trading’ method.
North Sea
Is this the future of earth?
Wind Power Turbines in old age crashing into the sea, polluting the sea with more fiberglass debris. Like I have said many times in the past… there is a difference between being clever and smart.
